Primar Stavanger Becomes an Authorized Reseller of Canadian ENCs
St. John’s, NL, Canada, February 7, 2007 -- Nautical Data International Inc. ("NDI") is pleased to announce the appointment of Primar Stavanger, operated by the Norwegian Hydrographic Service (NHS) as its authorized reseller of the Canadian S-57 compliant Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs).
The current portfolio of the official Canadian ENCs, comprised of 635 ENC cells, will be available through Primar Stavanger’s ENC Service and its extensive network of authorized and qualified distributors world wide.
NDI’s ENCs are the only certified IHO S-57 compliant charts covering the major shipping routes for Canada’s East coast, St. Lawrence Seaway, Great Lakes, and Pacific Ocean. The portfolio is continuously updated, and new releases are added on a weekly basis.
Rune Holst Johnsen, Director of Primar Stavanger, stated that “the Canadian ENCs are a major contribution to the Primar Stavanger ENC service, not only in terms of adding the official coverage of Canada’s navigable waters and ports to its portfolio, but also in terms of providing a gateway for many shipping routes to the USA and other important shipping routes in the Pacific Northwest region”.
Mohammad Al Zaibak, Chief Executive Officer of NDI, described the relationship with Primar as a positive venture that will bring many advantages to ENC users. “The integration of these new ENCs into the world-wide folio of Primar Online updating service represents an important advance for the safety aspects of SOLAS vessels now entering into the use of ECDIS for improved safety and cost benefits” he added.
NDI and Primar Stavanger are working closely together to provide the Canadian ENC service, for official release by March 1st, 2007.
BACKGROUND NOTES:
Primar Stavanger provides its service through a regional ENC coordinating centre (RENC) regime and distributor agreements with other countries and ENC suppliers. The ENC service currently comprises ENC coverage from more than 35 countries in addition to international waters. All Primar Stavanger’s ENCs are sold via an international network of authorized distributors, and are kept regularly updated by the Primar Chart Catalogue and the Primar Online remote updating service. Primar Stavanger is operated by the Norwegian Hydrographic Service.
