St. John's, NL, Canada, February 4,
2005-- Nautical Data International, Inc. ("NDI"), a Canadian marine information company based in St. John's, Newfoundland, is announcing that yesterday it brought a legal action against the Department of Fisheries and Oceans
("DFO") - the Canadian Hydrographic Services ("CHS").
The action arises out of the purported termination of the agreement between CHS and NDI under which NDI has been given the sole worldwide right and license to use and sublicense the use of CHS data for marine digital data products.
The action seeks compensatory damages in the amount of $109,000,000 plus punitive damages of $5,000,000, as well as a declaration that the agreement remains in full force and effect and an injunction against any third parties making unauthorized use of CHS data to produce any digital data products.
