NDI Releases the 2005 Edition of DigitalOcean® Chart
Products Many Changes Add Significant Value
January 9, 2005 St. John's -- Nautical Data International, Inc. (NDI)
today released its 2005 DigitalOcean® product line,
making safe and reliable raster BSB chart products more
effective and affordable than ever through numerous
upgrades and additions.
All DigitalOcean® raster charts in the 2005 product
line have now been packaged in Value Pack CD-ROMs with
each CD including Maptech Offshore Navigator software
free of charge in addition to demo software from Fugawi
and Navsim.
NDI is also introducing "Super Value Packs"
that group charts for most of the country's navigable
coastal and interior waters into four regional Super
Value Packs and provide even further discounts for these
bundled packages.
NDI is the sole worldwide distributor of the official
Canadian electronic navigation charts and other digital
nautical information under a multi-year agreement with
the Government of Canada. In partnership with the
Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), NDI has
successfully developed a comprehensive digital
cartography database comprised of thousands of nautical
charts and other marine information covering navigable
Canadian waters and coastal zones.
A privately held Canadian company based in St. John's,

products under the brand DigitalOcean® for recreational

Fully Functional Navigation Software Included Free
of Charge:
NDI has teamed up with Maptech to provide free
software on all DigitalOcean® CDs for 2005! Maptech's
Offshore Navigator, which retailed for over $300 in
2004, is now included FREE OF CHARGE in all DigitalOcean®
Raster chart CD titles. This fully functional software
enables a recreational boater to enjoy all the features
and benefits of an electronic navigation system used on
commercial vessels.
Perpetual End-User License and Free OnLine Updating Services:
In addition to lower prices and free software, NDI
has also made significant changes to its licensing
policy and updating services. The new end-user license
is perpetual and does not require annual renewal,
thereby making online chart updates and product upgrade
voluntary. For recreational navigation purpose, the
end-user licensee can obtain and apply related chart
updates as they are released by CHS and NDI. Also,
purchasing the DigitaOcean® Value Pack or Super Value
pack products 2005 edition entitles the licensed user to
two online seasonal updates of related updated charts
during the year free of charge.
Planned
Upgrades and Monthly Updating Subscription Services:
Later this year, NDI will introduce a new online MONTHLY
updating service, and the licensed user will be able to
subscribe to and receive the monthly updates of affected
charts as such updates are released by CHS and NDI. NDI
highly recommends that boaters maintain up-to-date
charts for safety purposes. To ensure affordability, NDI
has maintained its 50% product upgrading policy, whereby
next year upgraded editions of specific DigitalOcean®
Value Pack and Super Value Packs will be available to
registered users of the 2005 edition at 50% of the
retail value.
Affordable Pricing:
With the 2005 upgrades and
additions, the average price in DigitalOcean® raster
chart is now below $6.25 per chart in the Value Packs
and below $4.5 per chart in the Super Value Packs. To
ensure this pricing structure and value is consistent,
NDI has dropped the prices on many titles and have
combined the Rainy Lake and Lake of the Woods charts in
one CD-ROM title. These new enhancements and services
make DigitalOcean® chart products more accessible and
affordable to the recreational boating and sports
fishing community than ever.
